Filling the Frame

Tried this for the Filling the Frame contest on DPChallenge. It didn't come out the way I wanted, and even though I have tried many times, I just can't get it right. I now officially will not try anymore and will not use a geranium in my entry--if I get one!

I wonder what you aim was. It looks like you were pretty close to nice results.

Very nice colour. A tighter crop might just do it.

Yes I think maybe a slightly tighter crop an increase the saturation or contrast a tad to give it a bit of punch and it looks good. The sharpening could also do with a bit of work. Otherwise a nice shot, keep trying.

Had it not been expert editing, I would probably have tweaked this a little and gone with it. No way to compete with those who really know what they are doing!

Just to add, when you increase the sauration, only increase the reds. I have played with it a bit if you would like to see it let me know and I can e-mail it to you.

Really nice colour, what are you using as your light source? I think Karen and Lori have good ideas here! What sort of camera/lens are you using?

I wanted the texture of the petals to show, and to have a touch of drama. My "lighting" is a flashlight that unfortunately has a blue beam. I always have to do color correction, and really need to get a decent light set up! My camera is a Canon Digital Rebel 350XT, and I have the kit lens, as well as a macro and a zoom lens.
