I like your composition but feel the flash or lighting you have used is a little harsh. I would always try for natural light on a subject like this, somewhere near a window would be great :o)
Everything is hard to shoot for me. I agree with talj that the flash or other light which you used made the apple flat. But is a nice try of a macro and apple looks delicious :)
