While this is a familiar sight to most Americans, these are actually old school busses used by the park at Meramec Caverns to transport people up-river for canoe trips. For those who have been following this blog lately--there is one more marching band competition next weekend and then we are done for the year. Last weekend we ended up 3rd in our division (overall winners are not announced.)
Last weekend our band was in a competition held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Bands came from many states, including Minnesota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Illinois. It was a 2 day competition with 50 bands. This year we got 10th in the finals, our first year to even make finals. The top shot was taken by a friend during prelims. The other shots were taken by me as we walked to a nearby restaurant after their performance. I only had my point & shoot, and no tripod. There is a lot of grain at ISO at 1600, but I've talked myself into thinking that it adds to the feeling.
I had this image ready to post last Friday. It is the crowd leaving the band competition at MSU, and it also would have tied in with me leaving that day to go to another band competition in St. Louis. I was busy packing and forgot to post until I started turning off my computer, so here it is. I will have some St. Louis photos later.
These night shots were taken between the preliminaries and the finals at the Ozarko Marching Band Competition last Saturday. (Like Mike, I sometimes lose inspiration, and I also run out of time, so I haven't taken any new shots this week!)
I spent Saturday at a high school marching band competition. These are the bleachers across the field from where I sat. One person sitting there would have added interest, but they were empty most of the day.
Another football game! I turned to see what it looked like behind me and saw this sunset. (As for football--unfortunately we are 0-6 for the season, but the band is great!) Today is our second band competition. They have a good show this year, and it gets better every week. I'm looking forward to seeing them perform this afternoon.
I spent most of yesterday at my son's marching band's first competition. They won first in their division, but came in third overall. They have worked hard, and did a great job. We will be going to a competition every weekend this month and the first weekend in November.
