Since it is MSU's fall break, I was able to attend last night's camera club meeting! It was my first meeting since August. Hopefully I won't have a class on Thursdays next semester!

A member gave a presentation on various artistic things to do in Photoshop. I randomly selected one of my photos to try one of the techniques. It reminds me of going through a stargate.

I read a tutorial on DPChallenge and decided to try some of the ideas. First, I downloaded VirtualPhotographer--a free plug-in for Photoshop that lets you create a lot of different effects. These were used to create the top image (starting with the HDR photo).

For the middle image, I made 6 copies of the image and varied the brightness on each one then combined using HDR.

The bottom is the original processed mostly in LightRoom. (Resized and sharpened in PS)

Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

It's been way too long since I took any photos, the price I pay for being a full time student. All my work is done for the semester and I celebrated by going to Wilson's Creek yesterday to do some shooting.

I took a class on using Adobe Lightroom on Saturday. I only have the trial version for now, but I hope to buy it soon.

Our high school marching band went to the Bands of America Grand Nationals in Indianapolis this year. After their performance, we went to the mall to eat and hang out for awhile. I had found some places to shoot, but it was raining so I ended up staying at the mall. The bottom three were taken from the domed walkway shown in the first shot.

Went to Sacred Heart Cultural Center this morning (it used to be a church, but is now used for weddings, proms, and other events). I knew there had been a wedding on Saturday, but I did not expect to find chairs, tables, trash, etc. still waiting to be picked up. The cleaning crew was arriving as I left. The air conditioners were not on and it was pretty warm inside so I decided not to wait around for them to finish. I will post more shots from there tomorrow.

Galveston, Texas

I was in Pasadena, Texas (shares a border with Houston) for my son's wedding in June. We spent an afternoon at Galveston. I took a LOT of pictures, only to realize much later that my ISO was set on 1600. Nothing like high ISO in bright afternoon sun! My excuse is that I took my old camera which I rarely use, and just forgot to check the settings. Anyway, this is the first shot I have worked on, and it's not too bad considering.

From Wikipedia: On July 21, 1865, in the town square of Springfield, Missouri, Hickok killed Davis Tutt, Jr.. in a "quick draw" duel. Fiction later typified this kind of gunfight, but Hickok's is in fact the only one on record that fits the portrayal. The incident was precipitated by a dispute over a gambling debt incurred at a local saloon.

We were told by "Sassy Eyes" (top photo) that after the shooting they ran through the building that is now the restaurant.
